Select Committees play an important role in Parliament; scrutinising Government policy and conducting inquiries into matters of importance in their relevant subject area. Last week, I sat on four evidence sessions that covered a range of issues, including the conflict in Yemen Arabia and the...
I recently visited Leamington Vineyard Learning Centre to better understand the work they do in supporting children that have been permanently excluded from school and for 'school refusers'. Every child should have access to an excellent education and in cases where a child has struggled at a...
On 23rd April, we mark the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare and the events taking place across the country in the coming months are indicative of his work being deeply embedded in our national identity. Warwickshire is known as 'Shakespeare's County' and his legacy lives on; in...
Last week, I received my polling card for the forthcoming Police & Crime Commissioner (PCC) election on 5th May. I hope that all those that are eligible to vote use that opportunity to ensure that our local policing priorities are guided by an individual backed by a strong mandate. The work of a...
With Parliament in recess for two weeks I have had an opportunity to spend a greater deal of time in Warwick and Leamington and have met with many local residents and organisations. From discussing issues of importance to older people with Age UK to liaising with an officer of Warwick District...
I have been serving Warwick and Leamington as a Member of Parliament since 2010, having previously worked locally in Public Relations and at Longbridge with MG Rover. I live in Warwick and play an active role in our community, whether it be through my role as a Governor of Myton School, volunteering with a number of local charities such as Nightlight and the Warwickshire Association of Youth Clubs, or meeting as many local businesses and organisations as possible.
In Westminster, I am a member of the Business, Innovation and Skills Select Committee having previously served on the International Development Select Committee. I am also Chair of the Committee on Arms Export Controls. My Private Member's Bill, the Social Value Act, was passed in the last Parliament. For more information on the legislation, please see the Social Value section of this website. I also Co-Chair the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Group and Chair the All Party Group on Video Games, two vital sectors in our area.
The constituency of Warwick and Leamington encompasses the historic town of Warwick, Leamington Spa, Whitnash and a swathe of Warwickshire villages including Hatton, Budbrooke, Hampton Magna, Norton Lindsey, Barford, Sherbourne, Wasperton and Bishop's Tachbrook.
